Set up a Legacy

The expansion of Classics across all our state schools will be driven by the support of people who have themselves been touched by the legacy of the ancient world, and have benefited in the longer term from the study of Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation and Ancient History.

By remembering Classics for All in your will, you can ensure that Classics and the benefits they provide continue to have a positive impact on British state schools and future generations of children. It can also be an effective way to reduce inheritance tax; as Classics for All is a registered charity, no inheritance tax is payable on the amount of your gift.

Leaving a legacy to Classics for All in your will is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways of giving. You can make a gift of a specified sum of money (a pecuniary legacy) or a gift of a proportion of your residuary estate (a residual legacy). If you have already made your will but now wish to include Classics for All, you may wish to add a codicil, which is a separate legal document that makes changes or additions to an existing will.

There are tax implications in leaving the residue of your estate between charitable and non-charitable beneficiaries; for further information we suggest that you consult your solicitor, who will discuss the different types of legacy with you.

Memorial Gifts

These allow you to honour a friend or loved one by providing a gift to Classics for All for activities bearing their name. This is an excellent way to celebrate someone who found pleasure in, or indeed continues to find pleasure in, our classical past.

Make a Gift of Shares

Another way to provide a legacy is to make a bequest of a gift of shares.

Share Giving offers the most generous tax relief available to donors, combining relief on income and capital gains tax. In the UK, share gifts qualify for tax relief equal to the market value of the shares on the day the gift is made, including associated costs such as broker fees. The tax relief can be claimed for the year in which the gift is made.

Classics for All is unable to provide advice on taxation and tax affairs. We recommend that you consult HMRC or your tax adviser for professional advice about donating shares.
